Responding to violence and aggression

Society is changing. Violent and aggressive behaviour is increasingly common in social care and ‘after the fact’ platitudes about ‘zero-tolerance’ do nothing to help the injured or occasionally deceased victims of angry or habitually violent service-users and their relatives.

This course explores the reasons for aggression, the ways to avoid it and introduces tried and tested methods of diffusing (de-escalating) aggressive situations before they progress to violent incidents.

The course includes..

  • What is aggression
  • The four main reasons for hostility
  • The law relating to hostility at work
  • Risk assessment
  • Information sharing protocols
  • Fight or flight
  • How to diffuse aggression

This course does not cover physical intervention techniques such as restraint or breakaway. The emphasis is upon avoiding conflict and diffusing aggression rather than expecting workers to overcome assailants.

No previous knowledge or experience is necessary for the basic course.

More advanced training is also available for more experienced workers.

Both versions can be tailored to your particular requirements and delivered at the venue of your choice.
