Adult Support in Scotland (a new legal framework)
"I found this course really interesting, the way the info was put across kept you alert and keen to go do more with the info. Really good trainer, clearly knew his stuff and kept checking and ensuring we knew what he was explaining. I really enjoyed it all."
More and more, social care organisations are finding themselves in the front line when it comes to protecting vulnerable people from abuse and harm. Minimum care standards throughout UK include competence in Adult Protection protocols and there are very real legal responsibilities for care providers. In Scotland the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 combine to provide a comprehensive framework for all care workers to follow.
Fortunately the rules and responsibilities for front line workers are relatively straightforward and all staff should be more than able to comply provided that they understand what is required of them.
This course equips workers to make sense of the legislation in practice and to fulfil their duty of care regarding vulnerable people. The course covers:
Who is a vulnerable adult?
What is abuse?
Two main roles: Alerter and Investigator
How to spot abuse and harm
Recording concerns
Reporting and the truth about confidentiality
Boundaries for alerters and other staff
The investigation process
What happens next?
Guilty, Not Guilty and Not Proven
Disclosure Scotland, 'the list' and 'the scheme'?
Staying safe
No previous knowledge or experience is necessary for the basic course.
More advanced training is also available for more experienced workers.
Both versions can be tailored to your particular requirements and delivered at the venue of your choice.
